Man charged with felony strangulation

BUCKHANNON — A Webster County man is facing a felony charge in Upshur County after allegedly admitting to choking someone with his hands, as well as hitting them and spitting on them.

Dusten Cool, 31, of Webster Springs, is charged with one count of strangulation, suffocation or asphyxiation, a felony.

Cool was being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $5,000 10% cash bond that has since been posted.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Patrolman Wade Loudin with the Buckhannon City Police Department, on Dec. 6, Loudin responded to a residence on Fifth Street in reference to an alleged battery.

Upon arrival, Loudin made contact with the alleged victim, who said Cool was in a bedroom, the complaint states. As Loudin entered the bedroom Cool was in, he noted that a dresser was knocked over, with its drawers broken, and that there were other pieces of furniture in the room that were also broken.

When Loudin asked Cool what happened, Cool allegedly stated that he had “gotten upset and harmed (the alleged victim),” the complaint states. Cool allegedly said he spit on the alleged victim, as well as slapped and choked him.

Loudin asked Cool how he allegedly choked the alleged victim and Cool allegedly demonstrated “putting both of his hands around (the alleged victim’s) neck,” according to the complaint.

Loudin then spoke to the alleged victim, who allegedly also stated that Cool spit on him and hit him, the complaint states. When Loudin asked the alleged victim if his airways had been restricted “to the point that he could not breath,” the alleged victim said yes, according to the complaint. Cool was then placed into custody.
