ELKINS — Davis & Elkins College’s campus executive chef will now also be taking on the role of general manager at Graceland Inn & Restaurant, officials announced.

Matthew Tyre, who has been D&E’s campus executive chef since 2024, will now also be operating Graceland Inn & Restaurant as the facility’s general manager.

A D&E press release explained that Tyre “brings a wealth of culinary prowess to the second historic mansion on the campus of Davis & Elkins College.”

“I’m thrilled to share that I’ve accepted an additional role of General Manager of Graceland on the campus of Davis & Elkins College,” Tyre said in the release.

“This opportunity allows me to combine my passion for culinary excellence with my commitment to hospitality and leadership.

“I look forward to creating memorable experiences for our community and continuing to elevate the standards of service and dining. Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey — I’m excited for what’s ahead!”

Tyre joined D&E in December 2024, following an 18-year culinary tenure with Walt Disney World Resort.

Also during that time, Tyre received his culinary education via Orlando Culinary Academy, an affiliate of Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America.

As executive chef, Tyre has helped to “revitalize” Graceland’s menu to reflect a “casual fine dining experience” featuring Italian cuisine, the release states. The college called this revitalization an effort to “embrace the class and nature of the Victorian house without breaking the bank of surrounding community members.”

Built in 1893, Graceland once served as the home of former West Virginia senator Henry Gassaway Davis. After being sold to a local Presbyterian Church in the 1950s, Graceland was donated to D&E.

According to D&E, the facility offers “premier dining and event spaces alongside elegant lodging in the heart of Appalachia.”
