ELKINS — The Steer Steakhouse and the Gandy Dancer Theatre are “stepping into a big year” before the property is sold to The Refinery Church this December, officials said this week.
With the upcoming sale of the property to The Refinery Church at the end of this year, both Steer Steakhouse and the Gandy Dancer officials said they are battling rumors that they have already closed, which are “far from the truth.”
According to a release from both businesses, the Steer will remain open until Dec. 28 and the Gandy Dancer will have performances until Dec. 19. Both businesses “look forward to continuing to serve and entertain” the community.
“Last year, the Gandy Dancer hosted over 170 buses, groups, and events,” Gandy Dancer Theatre C.E.O. G’na Stephens said in the released statement. “We already have over 160 buses booked, and we should reach 200 buses and events by the end of the year, making it the best year ever. Following us on Facebook and our website is the best way to stay up to date on our shows and dates.”
With the 2026 season already set for Gandy, tickets for the shows will go on sale this month. Shows this year will include Tribute to Musical Legends, Premier, Aloha from Elvis, Murder Mystery, Mountain Memories Christmas and Christmas with Elvis dinner shows, “with more to come.”
The Steer Steakhouse will have daily specials and monthly specials throughout the year as well, while also bringing back Tuesday night Baked Steak. In February the restaurant will feature their popular Valentine’s Day steak dinners.
“We have been blessed all these years, and the relationships we’ve built with the community have meant so much to me,” Steer Steakhouse owner Ralph Bennett said in the release. “I appreciate the support and love we receive from all our guests and will continue to do the same until our last day.”
In August, Pastor Roy Schneider announced The Refinery Church’s plans to purchase the 20,000 square-foot facility on the Beverly Pike, explaining that the space would give the church the opportunity to partner with the community in new ways, as well as have space to meet the needs of their “growing church family.”
“God opened a door. The folks at Western Steer and the Gandy Dancer had reached out to us that they were looking to retire and were interested in selling the building to us,” Schneider told The Inter-Mountain in a previous statement. “So we began some talks and we went and checked the facility out… it’s in a great location to kind of be in the downtown/Corridor (area), and to continue to do a lot of the things that we do at the church, as well.”
Schneider said an agreement has been reached for the church to purchase and close on the property by December of this year.
“We’re excited to close on this building and turn it into our church,” Schneider said in the recent release. “We hold both of these businesses in the highest regard, and we will continue to support them.”
