83-year-old man trapped in home for days
MARLINTON — An elderly Pocahontas County man was rescued by a West Virginia State Police trooper on Friday after falling and being trapped in his bedroom for approximately five days, police said.
Trooper First Class Z.M. Chestnut of the Marlington Detachment of the West Virginia State Police was responding to a welfare check involving an elderly male at his residence on Sheet Lane Friday, according to a State Police press release.
When he arrived on the scene, Chestnut entered the home after he was unable to make contact with the 83 year-old gentleman. Once inside the residence, Chestnut located the man in his bedroom, where he was trapped between his bed and the wall, the release states.
The elderly man told police that he had fallen and was unable to free himself. and that he had been trapped there for approximately five days. Chestnut’s prompt actions at the scene likely saved the man’s life, according to the release.
The individual was transported to Pocahontas County Memorial Hospital by the Pocahontas County Emergency Squad, before later being sent to LewisGale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia for additional medical treatment.
