ELKINS — Davis & Elkins College student Chiebuka Soribe addressed the Rotary Club of Elkins, giving the group information about an internship opportunity he is exploring.
Soribe is a junior from Silver Spring, Maryland, who is majoring in English with a minor in film. He is a member of the men’s Lacross team and serves as vice president of communication for the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He was recently accepted into the Cannes Film Festival Student Program and is working to raise the funds necessary to travel to Cannes in May 2026 for this opportunity.
Members of the Student Program will receive hands-on experience while learning from industry professionals, attending panels and meetings with notable members of the film industry and attending screenings and private festival events. They will see films from all over the world and learn about careers in film, entertainment, hospitality and/or event management. Each day, students will complete a four-hour internship with a company doing business at the festival.
The cost of the program is $5,454 which covers room and board and breakfast. To date, the Davis & Elkins College student government has committed $1,000 toward this cost and members of the Rotary Club of Elkins passed the hat during the meeting to add to that amount. The full cost of the program must be paid by March 2 in order for Soribe to participate. Any members of the community who would like to help Soribe represent Davis & Elkins College and reach his goal of attending this prestigious program can contact Davis & Elkins Vice President for Advancement Scott Goddard at goddards@dewv.edu or by calling 304.637.1352
