Adaland Mansion seeking volunteers
Submitted photo Adaland Mansion is calling for volunteers so that Philippi’s historical gem can continue shining on the hilltop four miles north of downtown Philippi.
PHILIPPI — A total of 65,000 — that’s the number of hours donated by volunteers to open Adaland Mansion to the public between 1996 and 1999 when Philippi’s historical gem opened for public tours.
Those volunteers from 30 years ago restored windows, cleaned walls, sanded floors, and scrubbed the structure given by Anker Energy Company, the last coal company to own the Modisett property, to the City of Philippi through the Philippi Development Corporation.
All those 65,000 volunteer hours established a model for the area surrounding Adaland Mansion. Volunteers have continued to assist today’s Adaland Mansion in a variety of ways including cleaning, assisting with landscaping work, serving guests at dinners and teas, washing dishes, writing articles for newspapers, setting up and taking down for events, and more.
Now Adaland Mansion is calling for volunteers so that Philippi’s historical gem can continue shining on the hilltop four miles north of downtown Philippi.
Volunteers are needed for both inside and outside work, for assistance with events, and for other types of care of the 1870 Neo-Greek or Greek Revival style home.
People wanting to lend a helping hand to Adaland Mansion are asked to contact Adaland’s Executive Director Kim Delauder by calling 304-457-1587.
