Clerk: Primary ballots waiting on approval

ELKINS — Randolph County Clerk Brenda Wiseman provided an update about the West Virginia Primary Election during the most recent Randolph County Commission meeting.

Wiseman told the County Commission that work for the upcoming election is coming along well and that the ballots for the primary have been sent away for approval.

“After we had the drawing for the candidate positions for the ballot on Feb. 24, we sent everything in to ES&S (Election Systems & Software) to program the ballots and get them prepared,” Wiseman said. “They sent us back ballot proofs and now we have called in the two ballot commissioners to come and go over all the ballots. They will make sure there are no typos, mistakes or anything else.”

Wiseman said that once the ballot commissioners go over everything, the ballots will be sent back for final printing and prep work for the machines. She also announced during the meeting that the Clerk’s Office is now accepting absentee ballot applications.

“If anybody needs an absentee ballot, they can call our office and we will send them out an application,” Wiseman said. “They will need to fill out the application and turn it back in. We begin mailing ballots out on March 27, and you can apply for those until May 6.”

Wiseman said the Randolph County Clerk’s Office is still in need of poll workers for the May election.

“We always need extra poll workers and backup poll workers,” Wiseman said.

“If anyone would be interested in being a poll worker, they can call my office and we will get you in touch with the executive committees.”

Wiseman finished up by talking about the recent “I Voted” Sticker Contest. Addisyn Gragg was the overall winner for Randolph County, and her sticker was submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office for regional competition.

“We had a county winner and that was submitted to the state,” Wiseman said. “Even though that submission didn’t get into the finalists for the state, we’ve decided, and some other counties have, too, to purchase the stickers with that picture on it for the primary election. So I think that is pretty cool.”

The next Randolph County Commission meeting will be at the Commission Annex on March 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Starting at $3.92/week.
