Official: EHS student dead, others seriously injured

ELKINS – An Elkins High School student has died this weekend and other students were seriously injured, according to a release from the Randolph County Superintendent of Schools.

No names have been released at this time, and other details are few in Saturday’s social media post from Dr. Shawn Dilly.

Dilly’s release is as follows:

“Message to the Randolph County Schools Community

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the heartbreaking news that an Elkins High School student has tragically passed away, and several other students were seriously injured this weekend. This loss is deeply felt across our entire school community.

“Our hearts go out to the family of the student we have lost, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We also continue to keep the injured students and their families in our thoughts and prayers as they receive care and begin the road to recovery.

“When tragedy touches our school community, it affects us all. Counselors and support staff will be available at Elkins High School to support any students or staff who may need someone to talk with in the days ahead. We encourage families to take time to talk with their children and offer comfort as we grieve together.

“Please keep all affected families in your thoughts and prayers as our community comes together to support one another.

Dr. Shawn L. Dilly
