BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County woman faces felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly threatening her husband and daughter, as well as for allegedly fleeing from police while in home confinement.
Mildred Ann McAtee, 67, is charged with one count of escape or attempted escape, a felony, and one count of domestic assault, a misdemeanor. McAtee is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $15,500 cash-only bond.
According to the criminal complaint, filed by Sgt. Tyler A. Gordon with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, on March 26, Gordon, along with Home Confinement Supervisor Derek Long and Sgt. Theron Caynor, responded to a 911 call allegedly stating “(McAtee) and her daughter were destroying the residence.”
Upon arrival, officers found that McAtee had allegedly fled the residence, the complaint states. At the time, McAtee was a participant in the Upshur County Home Confinement Program as part of her bond. McAtee had been arrested in 2025 for one count of making terroristic threats and one count of retaliation against a public official, both felonies.
Long was able to track McAtee by her GPS monitor, the complaint states. McAtee was allegedly found hiding behind a nearby residence that did not belong to her. When asked if she had heard the sirens from law enforcement responding to the scene, McAtee reportedly responded, “Yes.”
Gordon writes that McAtee allegedly had “ample opportunity to make her whereabouts known to law enforcement.” McAttee also reportedly admitted to attempting to escape in a vehicle, but was unable to do so due to the vehicle being locked.
The officers then interviewed the two victims inside the original residence, McAtee’s husband and daughter, the complaint states. Both stated that McAtee was “irate.” McAtee’s husband advised police that McAtee had allegedly entered his room “in a threatening manner” while holding a table leg in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other. He stated that this caused him to fear for his safety.
McAtee’s daughter informed officers that she allegedly saw McAtee strike her father, the complaint states. She also reportedly told police that McAtee had threatened to kill her through the door of the residence.
A preliminary hearing for McAtee has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 1 in Upshur County Magistrate Court.
