ELKINS – The Randolph County Commission unanimously approved three items at its most recent meeting that will begin the process of opening the Randolph County Community Pool and Splashpad for the 2026 season.
The pool and splash pad, which is located at the Elks Lodge, will be in its fourth summer of operation after the County Commission spent $2,163,372 to refurbish the facility. As in the past, the pool and splash pad are slated to open over Memorial Day weekend.
The first item on the agenda approved by Commissioners David Kelsing and Cris Siler was ratification of the signature on the Randolph County Pool Amusement Ride/Attraction Permit Application.
“We had to meet a timeline to get the permit,” Kesling said. “Every year they come and inspect it (pool and splash pad) and we get an updated sticker like the one on your car that you get. We had to have that done in a certain timeline so I went ahead and signed it, so now I’m just asking for ratification of my signature on the permit.”
The second item the Commissioners approved was a bid proposal for the pool and splash pad opening readiness.
“Every year we have the pool, splash pad, tables and chairs all power washed to get them ready for the summer,” Kesling said. “This year we have a proposal for $1,523.84 and right now we are going to approve up to that amount so that we can go ahead and get that started.”
The final agenda item having to do with the pool and splash pad was for the first installment of the facility’s funding for the 2026 season. The Commissioners approved the first installment of that funding in the amount of $7,500. That money will be taken out of the hotel-motel tax line item in the county budget.
“Each year we do a budget amount to help with the pool and splash pad,” Kesling said. “That amount helps pay for pool chemicals, supplies, and payroll to run the pool.”
