COALTON — A Randolph County man faces a felony charge after allegedly strangling a woman staying with him, putting her “in fear for her life.”

Jason Robert Fisher, 51, of Coalton, is charged with one count of strangulation, a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Trooper T.E. Workman with the West Virginia State Police, on April 13, Workman arrived at Davis Medical Center to speak with the alleged victim.

Upon making contact with the alleged victim, Workman asked her “what had occurred during this instance of abuse,” the complaint states. The alleged victim advised Workman that she believed a Domestic Violence Protective Order (DVPO) was still in effect and that she only been back in West Virginia since Easter, April 5. The alleged victim told Workman that she had been staying with Fisher at a residence on Pumpkintown Road in Coalton.

The alleged victim said that Fisher reportedly became physically abusive towards her starting Tuesday, April 7, the complaint states. She also told Workman that Fisher had allegedly strangled her on April 11. On the night of April 13, Fisher had reportedly grabbed the alleged victim by the neck and threw her to the floor, where he allegedly held her there, “restricting her breathing.”

The alleged victim went on to state that Fisher then allegedly picked her up and hit her back off a table, the complaint states. Workman writes that the alleged victim had a visible busted lip and markings to her face. The alleged victim said she had severe pain in her neck and back from the April 13 incident. When asked questions for a Dangerousness-Lethality Assessment Guide (DLAG) form, the alleged victim reiterated that Fisher had allegedly strangled her, “restricting her airways.” She told Workman that she was “in fear for her life” and believed that Fisher would kill her next time.

A preliminary hearing for Fisher was scheduled on Monday in Randolph County Magistrate Court, but the hearing was postponed for a later date after Fisher waived the time period.
