Student’s post raises concern in Pocahontas
MARLINTON — After investigating a student social media post which was “flagged as a potential safety concern,” Pocahontas County Schools officials say there are now “no ongoing safety concern for students or staff.”
Pocahontas County Superintendent of schools Dr. Leatha G. Williams addressed the situation in a signed statement on the school system’s web site.
“Late Thursday evening, a student social media post was flagged as a potential safety concern,” she wrote. “Pocahontas County Schools was promptly notified by Emergency Management Director Ben Brown and immediately took appropriate action.”
School officials worked closely with the West Virginia State Police “to review and address the concerns,” Willliams wrote in her statement. “All established safety protocols were followed, and the situation has been resolved.”
The county’s schools are now “operating on a normal schedule” and there is no “no ongoing safety concern,” Williams wrote.
“This message is shared to ensure clear and transparent communication with our parents and community rather than as an alert,” the statement reads. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority, and we appreciate the strong collaboration among our local and state partners.”
