13 votes separate Upshur Commission candidates
BUCKHANNON – Only 13 votes separated an incumbent and a challenger after the close of voting Tuesday night in the Upshur County Commission race.
Incumbent Republican Doug Bush tallied 979 votes, or 42.2% of the total votes cast, while Republican challenger Patrick Kyle Lane finished with 992 votes, or 42.8%.
The third Republican in the race, Scott H. Williams, garnered 347 votes, or 14.97% of those cast.
No Democrats were on the ballot for the Upshur County Commission seat.
Three incumbents were re-elected to the Upshur County Board of Education Tuesday night.
Sherry Dean was the top vote getter at 1,919 or 25.18% of those cast, followed by Roy Wager with 1,766 votes, or 23.2%, and Jan M. Craig with 1,416, or 18.6%.
Also receiving votes in the BOE race were Danny Marple, with 1,277 votes, or 16.8% of those cast, and Wayne Mills garnered 1,244 votes, or 16.3%.
In the Buckhannon City Council race, Shawn Young and incumbent Scott Randall were the top two vote getters out of 12 candidates.
Young received 209 votes, or 16.7% percent of all votes cast in the race, while Randall totaled 187, or 14.97%.
Also receiving votes were Scott Preston, with 163 votes, or 13.05% of the total; BJ Teets with 160 votes, or 12.81%; Abigail Wiernik with 107, or 8.57%; Keith Rowan with 104, or 8.3%; Jerry A. Cochran Sr. with 79, or 6.3%; Matt Kerner with 62, or 4.96%; Robert Osburn with 57, or 4.6%; Greg Kelley with 45 or 3.6%; Joshua David Hinchman with 41, or 3.3%; and Jim Valenson with 35, or 2.8%.
Incumbent Republican 64th District Delegate Adam Burkhammer, running unopposed, received 179 votes in Upshur County, and 991 statewide.
In the race for the 65th District House of Delegates seat, Republican incumbent Carl “Robbie” Martin received 1,427, while Democrat Mira Tanner-Hughes received 586. The two will face off in the General Election in November.
In the 68th District race, Republican incumbent Chris Phillips was the top vote-getter, garnering 270 votes, or 85.4%, in Upshur County. Statewide, he received 1,103 votes, or 73.09%.
Of Phillips’ two Republican challengers, David Critchfield received 30 votes, or 9.5%, in Upshur County, and 295 votes statewide, or 19.6%; and Tyler S. Williams tallied 16 votes or 5%, in Upshur County, and 111 votes statewide, or 7.36%.
In the State Senate District 11 race, incumbent Republican Bill Hamilton won his party’s nomination in his quest for re-election.
In Upshur County, Hamilon garnered 1,125 votes, or 48% of those cast. Statewide, Hamilton totaled 3,497 votes, 48% of the total.
Republican challenger Jack Reger tallied 810 votes in Upshur County, or 34.6% of the total, while former Republican state senator Robert Karnes received 408 votes in Upshur, or 17.4%.
Statewide, Reger received 2,307 votes statewide, or 28.95%, and Karnes garnered 2,166, or 27.1%.
In November’s General Election, Hamilton will face the Democratic nominee, Kevin Carpenter, who received 4,559 votes statewide and 658 in Upshur.
