UPSHUR COUNTY – An Upshur County was arrested after allegedly leading police on a high-speed pursuit and crashing what was reported as a stolen car.
Keanan Lee, 28, of Rock Cave, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, a felony, and first-offense driving suspended, reckless driving, and driving while DUI, all misdemeanors.
According to an Upshur County Sheriff’s Department press release, on Saturday, Deputy Dakota Linger received information regarding a stolen blue Kia Seltos traveling westbound on Route 151.
Linger was advised that the car was stolen out of Wood County, the release stated. The vehicle was reported to have continued onto Brushy Fork Road, then Glady Fork Road, and later Abbott Road heading eastbound.
Linger “monitored the vehicle’s location via radio traffic and successfully intercepted it near the intersection of Route 20 and Abbott Road in Upshur County,” according to the release.
As Linger “turned around to initiate contact, the vehicle immediately accelerated in
an attempt to flee,” the release states. The vehicle “reached a high rate of speed, disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Abbott Road and Route 20, and continued onto Millertown Road at an unreasonable speed.”
While traveling on Millertown Road, the vehicle “struck a telephone pole, causing damage to both the vehicle and the pole. The vehicle stopped when it came to a dead end on Millertown Road,” according to the release.
The driver was identified as Lee and placed under arrest without further incident. Lee “failed multiple field sobriety tests and displayed multiple signs of impairment. The defendant’s driver’s license was also found to be suspended,” the release stated.
Lee was transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
