Discover Nature Day set for Seneca Rocks

SENECA ROCKS – The Monongahela National Forest will host a “Discover Nature Day” for children and families on Saturday, June 6 at the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center.

The educational event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend. Discover Nature Day is an interactive event that celebrates “everything outdoors” and encourages visitors to get out and explore all that nature has to offer.

Forest Service staff will be on hand, and the first 100 kids attending will receive goody bags filled with Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl giveaway items. Forest Service personnel and partners will offer a variety of hands-on activities for those attending.

Some of the hands-on activities to take place during the event include live snakes and birds, wildlife skulls and skins, and other nature and outdoors related experiences designed to spark curiosity and learning.

Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl will be making appearances at Discover Nature Day. The event is geared toward being a fun way to connect families to wildlife and the outdoors. There will be no charge to attend.

There will be a raffle drawing at the top of every hour beginning at 11 a.m. Those participating will have a chance to win an outdoor or nature-related prize valued at $50.

For more than 100 years, the Forest Service has brought people and communities together to answer the call for conservation. The Monongahela National Forest spans nearly 1 million acres across 10 counties in eastern West Virginia.
