ELKINS – Dr. Derek Lambert has been named as the next superintendent of schools in Randolph County.
The Randolph County Board of Education voted 4-0 at a special meeting Tuesday night in favor of hiring Lambert. Board member Ed Daniels was not present at the meeting.
“I’m excited and humbled that the Board thought I was the best candidate,” Lambert told The Inter-Mountain after Tuesday’s meeting. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the staff, the community and the students, because that’s why I’m here.”
Lambert was offered a two-year contract. Salary details have not been released at this point.
Board member Sherri Collett made the motion to hire Lambert, and BOE member Rachel Burns seconded the motion. Burns took part in the meeting via phone.
Lambert is currently the principal at Pendleton County High School, his alma mater. Before that, he spent seven years working for the West Virginia Department of Education working in multiple capacities.
He is a graduate of the University of Maine, and earned a master’s degree at West Virginia University, and a doctorate from the University of Phoenix.
Terry George was appointed interim superintendent of Randolph County Schools on March 21, just one day after Superintendent Dr. Shawn Dilly resigned. Dilly was hired as Superintendent of Randolph County Schools in March 2024.
