New Barbour BOE members elected

PHILIPPI – Barbour County voters elected several new Board of Education members Tuesday evening.

With four BOE seats up for grabs, the top four vote getters were incumbent Ron “Redman” Phillips, with 988 votes, or 14.1% of the votes cast; Ashley Ryan, with 956 votes, or 13.6%; Kristy Stalnaker, with 920 votes, or 13.13%; and Johnna Croston, with 799 votes, or 11.4%.

The other candidates in the race included current BOE President Joanne McConnell, with 624 votes, or 8.9%, and current BOE Vice President David Everson, with 587 votes, or 8.4%.

The remainder of the BOE candidates on the ballot included Michael Maddix, with 568 votes; Jennifer Ervin, with 361; Kimberly Hymes, with 342; Larry McGill, with 338 votes; Carlton Jody Haller, with 276 votes; and Brittany Eubank, with 249.

In the Barbour County Commission race, incumbent David Strait, a Republican, totaled 1,052 votes, while Joyce Wilson, a Democrat, garnered 571. Strait and Wilson will now face off in the General Election in November.

In Barbour County, 2,116 out of 11,928 registered voters cast ballots in the Primary Election, a 17.7% voter turnout.
