Randolph search for superintendent moving forward

ELKINS – Randolph County Schools Interim Superintendent Terry George gave the Board of Education an update on the search for a new superintendent during the most recent BOE meeting.

“The Superintendent search is running on schedule right now,” George told the BOE. “On May 19th, you’ll have the opportunity during that regular meeting to look at the applicants. Dr. (Howard) O’Cull (WVSBA Executive Director) is going to deliver those to us and I will deliver those to you… You can select any or all of the applicants that you would like to interview.”

George said the BOE could hold two special meetings later this month to complete the hiring process for the county’s next superintendent.

“We can schedule a special board meeting on the 21st (May), so that you can schedule interviews,” George said. “And on the 26th (May) you have an opportunity to have a special meeting to select the new Superintendent of Randolph County Schools. And then on the 2nd and 25th of June, you would have your final two meetings, you would have your superintendent in place, and you can begin to get prepared to open up the year on July 1.

“There’s a lot of work to do there, folks, but it’s time to select a new superintendent and move forward with what is going on in the county.”

George recommended that the BOE go into executive session at its next regular board meeting and choose the candidates it wants to interview for the superintendent position. That meeting is scheduled for May 19 at 5:30 p.m.

George was hired as Interim Superintendent the day after Dilly’s departure and will remain in that position through June 30.

At its meeting on April 21, the Randolph County BOE approved a contract with the West Virginia School Board Association that allows the WVSBA to conduct a structured, customized search for the school system’s next superintendent.

As part of the contract, the WVSBA was also tasked with handling the advertising campaign for the search to replace Dr. Shawn Dilly, who resigned as Randolph County Superintendent on March 20.

The agreement states that the state School Board Association’s fees for the search do not exceed $750, unless otherwise determined by mutual agreement of the Randolph County BOE and the Association.

Also as part of the approval, the Board of Education agreed that the budget for notification of the position/advertising and related considerations is not to exceed $2,000.

Starting at $3.92/week.
