Tucker elects three BOE members

PARSONS – Tucker County voters re-elected three Board of Education members this week.

In Tuesday’s Primary Election, incumbent BOE members Cathy Hebb, Teresa Samples Simmons and Kevin White were chosen by Tucker voters.

Hebb was the top vote getter, with 660 votes, or 32% of the votes cast. Simmons was second with 614 votes, or 29.8%, and Kevin White, with 784, or 38%.

In the Tucker County Commission, unopposed Republican Jon Bush received 368 votes.

In the State Senate District I4 race, in Tucker County, Republican incumbent Jay Taylor received 202 votes, or 45.6% of those cast. Of his two Republican challengers, Marc Harman garnered 183, or 41.3%, and Mike Manypenny tallied 58, or 13%.

Statewide, Taylor won the Republican nomination, with 4,193 votes, or 47.1%, while Harman received 3,827 votes, or 42.9%, and Manypenny totaled 890 votes, or 9.99%.

The District 14 Democratic nomination went to Jason Armentrout, who ran unopposed, and received 387 votes in Tucker County, and 3,392 votes statewide.

In the House of Delegates 85th District race, in Tucker County, Parsons Mayor Bruce Kolsun received 339 votes, or 74.3% of the votes cast, while Jerry Ours tallied 76 votes, or 16.7%, and Alex D. Bosley totaled 41 votes, or 8.99%.

Statewide, however, Bosley won the Republican nomination for the 85th District, receiving 843 votes, or 42.2%.

Ours came in second, with 692 votes, or 34.6%, and Kolsun finished third, with 465 votes, or 23.3%.

The Democratic nomination for the 85th District was won by Deborah Stiles, who totaled 480 votes or 70.2%.

In Tucker County, Stiles gathered the most votes, with 398, or 72.5%, while Dean Bonney received 151 Tucker votes, or 27.5% . Statewide, Bonney tallied 204 votes, or 29.8%.

In Tucker County, 1,163 Primary Election ballots were cast, out of 5,123 registered voters, with a voter turnout percentage of 22.7%.
