Barbour County welcomes new business

Hello from Barbour County… home of the new Go Mart! After quite some time of being without a gas station in Belington, Go Mart opened this week, serving its first customers on Wednesday. I know many people are excited to have a local gas station again.

A few VBS’s are still happening in Barbour County.    

Concord Community Church will host VBS on June 23 to 26, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All children ages 3 to 18 years of age are welcome.

Horizons Church in Barbour County will also have VBS for children ages 3 years through the fifth grade, every Sunday from June 28th to July 26th.

Cornerstone Baptist Church in Belington will be hosting VBS July 12 through the 15th from 6 to 8 p.m. for children ages 3 to 13. Children can enjoy bible lessons, music, games, crafts, snacks and more.

Camp Popeye will be hosting several camps for children this summer. Junior Camp will be June 22nd to 26th for kids going into second – fifth grade. Junior high camp is July 6-10 for kids going into 6-8th grade. Senior high camp is July 20- 24 for kids ninth grade through graduation. For more information call 304-457-2872.

Again, the Barbour County Family Support Center is hosting Project Playground this summer. There will be eight weeks of summer fun at various parks around the county. On Tuesdays, they will be at North Philippi Park from 1 to 2 p.m., and at Dayton Park from 3 to 4 p.m. On Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. the activities will take place at the Fairgrounds Park, and from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Belington Park. All children are welcome! Bring a friend. Join in for free outdoor fun, learning and activities for children and families in the community. There will be arts and crafts, storytime and reading, games and sports, bubbles, chalk and play time, along with much more. This event is free. The Farmers Market takes place every Friday at the Barbour County Fairgrounds from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Support local farmers and enjoy fresh food on the table.

Belington Public Library will be hosting a summer reading program June 22nd, 24th, and 26th from noon until 3:30 daily. Space is limited so please check with the library to register your child. Reading can open another world for a child (and even adults). 

There will be 4th of July celebrations at the Barbour County Fairgrounds. Activities include ATV races at 9 a.m., a tractor and car show from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., pet show at 1:00, Mountain State Wrestling from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Music group, Tennessee Outlaw Country will be live in concert from 7 to 9 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dark. Barbour County Football team will be parking cars and accepting donations. Looking ahead, the Philip Barbour Middle and High School wrestling teams will be having chicken dinners for sale at the hometown care parking lot in Billington on July 11th. Pick up starts at noon. The cost will be $12 per dinner. Stop by for a delicious lunch and help support the wrestling teams.

Also on July 11th, Barb’s Corner Hotspot will be having a grand opening for their outside fire pit. There will be free food of pulled pork barbecue, baked beans, coleslaw, and more. Join in the fun of horseshoes and cornhole. There will also be drawings and prizes. Stop by and celebrate with them.

There will be a car show at the Junior fire department on July 12th from noon until 4 p.m. Entry fee will be $10 per car and all proceeds will benefit Courtney Holbert. The music group Left On Read will be providing entertainment. Stop in and support a local friend.

Jeep Fest will take place at batlers knob on July 12th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. activities include karaoke, food trucks, vendors, and more. The first 50 people to register receives a free t-shirt. The entry fee is $25. Register at www.battlersknobwv.com.

It’s not too early to begin thinking about the Barbour County Fair, which will take place Aug. 29 – Sept. 5. The theme will be A Walk To Remember. Get your advance tickets now. For more information, contact the fair office at 304-823-1328.
