Conference Center’s opening pushed back
ELKINS — Due to delays involving ordered construction materials, the opening of the new Railyard Event & Conference Center is being pushed back until the end of July, officials said.
Randolph County Development Authority director Robbie Morris told the Inter-Mountain in May that the 28,000 square-foot, $11.6 million facility was on track to open on July 1, but on Monday said that date has been changed.
“We should have the certificate of occupancy and all that kind of stuff good to go on July 1, but we are probably looking at the end of July before the theater and everything else opens because we are waiting on materials to complete it,” Morris told The Inter-Mountain Monday. “A large part of the delays we have had are because we haven’t been able to get the materials we need for the theater.”
Morris said he expects everything at the Event Center to be open for the final weekend in July.
“We actually have one of our first outside act shows scheduled for July 31st, and it looks like we will be able to make that without a problem,” Morris said. “All together we have three shows scheduled for that opening weekend.”
Morris also provided an update about another ongoing Randolph County Development Authority project, the Industrial Park expansion. The RCDA purchased a 71-acre tract of land back in 2022 that is situated across the street from the IOOF home on Georgetown Road. That property is being developed as an expansion of the current Industrial Park.
“We applied for Congressionally Directed Spending for some of the infrastructure work, and the state development office was taking some photos and some videography and some drone footage of it for marketing efforts,” Morris said. “It looks like 2027 will be when we construct the new interchange, just because with the Event Center and everything else I don’t want to stretch out finances too thin with too many projects right up front. But the state is really excited to market that property to hopefully get some more jobs here, so we are excited about that.”
Morris, who is also chairman of the Corridor H Highway Authority, announced last month that the new section of Corridor H, running from Kerens to Parsons, would be open by the end of June. Morris confirmed on Monday that those plans are still in place.
The section was originally slated to open before Memorial Day, but the opening was pushed back after weather conditions slowed some of the construction progress during the winter.
“The new section is going to be open by the end of the month,” Morris said Monday. “Myself and a lot of people are excited about that portion of Corridor H opening. It’s going to be a much more efficient and effective way for people to get from Parsons to Elkins and everywhere beyond.”
