County approves CVB funding request
ELKINS — The Randolph County Commission approved a funding request from the Elkins-Randolph County Tourism Convention and Visitors Bureau and certified the primary election results at its most recent regular meeting.
The Elkins-Randolph County CVB came before the County Commission seeking an additional $850 per month from the money it splits with RCC and takes in from the hotel-motel tax line item in the county budget.
County Commission President David Kesling and fellow Commissioner Cris Siler voted unanimous in favor of the increase. Commissioner Chris See was not present at the meeting.
“We increased the amount of money we give to the CVB to help with payroll expenses,” Kesling said. “They were looking for an additional $850 per month from the money that we collect from the hotel/motel tax.”
Kesling said the money increase will allow CVB Executive Director Anne Beardslee to do more tasks.
“This money is going to free her (Beardslee) up from having to do all the day-to-day operation things at the Welcome Center,” Kesling said. “She will be able to do more managerial tasks and other things such as promoting the CVB. They didn’t have enough money in their wage line to help fund the hiring of a new person, which they already have done. So this will help them with that.”
Kesling said that the CVB’s is extremely important when it comes to bringing visitors to Randolph County.
“We are seeing an increase in our hotel/motel tax and that’s because of the activities and everything that is going on in the county, and the CVB is a big part of that,” Kesling said. “The job that Anne (Beardslee) and her crew do is what drives that hotel/motel line.”

The Randolph County Commission unanimously approved the Primary Election results from last month during the meeting.
“We canvassed the election last week and then we gave candidates 48 hours to file if they wanted to do a recount,” Kesling said. “We had no recounts and then we had to wait for all the other counties in the state to do their canvassing. After that we could certify the election, which we did today. So it’s now official and there were no changes.”
The next Randolph County Commission meeting will be held on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Commission Annex.
