ELKINS – Davis & Elkins College has surpassed its $25 million goal for the “Creating Home: It Takes a Village” capital campaign. Launched in the summer of 2023 and supported by 298 donors, the campaign has been designed to bring the newest residence hall to campus, alongside improvements to other residence halls in what will become the Freshmen Village at Davis & Elkins College.
The greatest portion of campaign funds have been utilized in the construction and opening of D&E’s Glory Residence Hall. Welcoming the first cohort of incoming students into its doors in fall of 2024, Glory Residence Hall was given its name by donor and alumna Kathy (Dunbar) Ramsdell, ’74, who provided more than $5 million to her alma mater.
This new residence hall was debt-free when it was dedicated compliments of the generous donors to the capital campaign. Additional funds from the capital campaign have provided improvement opportunities for Roxanna Booth Hall and Gribble Hall. The three dormitories of Roxanna Booth, Gribble, and Glory Residence Hall make up what is to become the campus’ Freshmen Village.
A celebration of the College’s milestone achievement was held on Monday, June 1, on the back patio of Glory Residence Hall. There, supporters of the campaign and D&E faculty, staff, Board of Trustee members, and community members gathered among luxury food stations and event activities as provided by the College’s dining services and event coordination teams.
“Davis & Elkins College has 25,271,842 reasons to be thankful,” states D&E President Chris A. Wood. “The conclusion of our Creating Home: It Takes a Village Capital Campaign in only 36 months marks a milestone achievement for the institution and demonstrates the strong support of our alumni and friends to the mission of this College. The construction of the Freshmen Village at Davis & Elkins College has increased our competitiveness to attract students in what has become an increasingly challenging market.
“The party we enjoyed on Monday at Glory Residence Hall was a celebration of accomplishment and the realization of a promising future.”
Davis & Elkins College extends its heartfelt thanks to all supporters of the Creating Home: It Takes a Village capital campaign, and for the support of students for generations to come.
