Man charged with failing to register
COALTON — A Randolph County man faces a felony charge after allegedly failing to update his employment status in time as a sex offender.
Danney Neal Elmore, 66, of Coalton, is charged with one count of failure to register first offense, a felony. Elmore was being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $15,000 10% cash bond that has since been posted.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Trooper R.K. Stewart with the West Virginia State Police, on May 26, Elmore arrived at the Elkins Detachment of the West Virginia State Police to complete an update on his sex offender registration.
Elmore requested that his employment at the New China Cook be removed from his registration, the complaint states. When Stewart asked when his time at the restaurant ended, Elmore allegedly said he had quit “a few months ago.” On the same date, Stewart contacted the New China Cook and requested the know when Elmore’s last day of employment was. The restaurant advised that Elmore had notified them in February that he was “no longer able to work for them.”
According to West Virginia State Code, registered sex offenders must report any changes in their residence, address, place of employment or occupation, motor vehicle, trailer or motor home information within 10 business days of said change.
Also on the same date, Stewart looked into information regarding Elmore’s sex offender charge, the complaint states. Stewart writes that, in 1992, Elmore was charged with sexual abuse in the second degree for sexual contact with a person less than 14 years old by the Walden Village Police Department in Walden Village, New York. Elmore was convicted of this charge.
