ELKINS- The Randolph County Democratic Party will host its annual Democracy Dinner Saturday, June 13th, at the Wingate at Wyndham in Elkins beginning at 6 p.m.

The event will celebrate 250 years of democracy, featuring keynote speaker West Virginia House of Delegates Minority Leader Sean Hornbuckle.

Hornbuckle, D-Cabell County, was chosen as the state’s first Black House minority leader in 2023. Last year, he joined other West Virginia Democratic lawmakers in touring the state with the popular Kitchen Table Tour, which was designed to listen to West Virginians’ concerns.

“We need to take care of the business first and make sure people have jobs, clean drinking water, making sure that folks can afford and have access to health care,” Hornbuckle reported to WV Public Broadcasting.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Hornbuckle with us for this special event that we consider an evening with purpose,” said Cindy Stemple, chair of the Randolph County Democratic Executive Committee. “Democracy isn’t something that happens to us. Tonight’s speakers will remind us that it is something we need to continue fighting for.”

Not only will local democratic candidates running this fall speak on the future of democracy, but the event will also feature a presentation by Juliann Harlen, an Elkins High School student who recently won the American Legion State Oratorical Championship.

“It will be a great evening of hearing new, exciting voices speak about what Democracy, 250 years after we declared our independence, means to the future of our country,” said Stemple.

The three-course dinner buffet will be catered by El Gran Sabor Venezolano. For tickets and more information, visit randolphcountydemocrats.com. Reservations are encouraged by June 6.

Starting at $3.92/week.
