Four killed in Junior fire

JUNIOR — Four people were killed in a mobile home fire Wednesday evening, officials said.

The fire took place on West River Avenue in Junior, and was reported at about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday evening, Barbour County Office of Emergency Management Deputy Director Dylan Harper told The Inter-Mountain Thursday morning.

In a statement to The Inter-Mountain Thursday morning, Jason Baltic with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed the deaths of four adults in the fire. Officials have not released the victims’ names at this time.

Fire departments from Belington, Philippi and Coalton responded to the fire, alongside the Junior Volunteer Fire Department, Harper said. He stated that the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office, West Virginia State Police, Belington Police Department and the Barbour County EMS were also at the scene Wednesday night.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office was at the scene as of Thursday morning, officials said.
