Hello from Barbour County and Happy 4th of July!

It sure has been hot this week!

Lots of things going on!

There will be a 4th of July Independence Day celebration at the Barbour County Fairgrounds all day on July 4th. The day promises crafts, vendors, food booths, music, and more. Fireworks will take place at dark. Stop by and join in the festivities as we celebrate our nation’s birthday.

Also on July 4th, the Belington Church of the Nazarene will be having a free clothing giveaway beginning at 8:00 a.m. Don’t miss out on their biggest giveaway event of the summer!

On Sunday, July 5th, there will be a Miss Summer Beauty Pageant at Battler’s kKob in Philippi from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. this will of course include a pageant with prizes and all contestants will have the opportunity to compete in an interview portion for practice if interested.

On July 6th, 8th, and 10th, as well as July 20th, 22nd, and 24th, the Belington Public Library will be hosting a summer reading program from noon until 3:30 p.m. each day. Space is limited so please call the library at 304-823-1026 to save your child a spot.

On July 11th beginning at noon, the Phillip Barbour Middle and High School wrestling teams will be selling chicken dinners in the Hometown Care parking lot in Belington. The cost will be $12 per dinner.

Also on July 11th, Barb’s Corner Hotspot and Lounge will be having a grand opening for their outside pit. There will be free food of pulled pork barbecue, baked beans and coleslaw. Stop by and enjoy a game of horseshoes or cornhole. There will be drawings and prizes.

Calling all Jeep lovers! Battler’s Knob will be hosting Jeep Fest on July 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.. There will be music, food trucks, vendors, and more. The first 50 people to register receives a free t-shirt. You can register at www.battlersknobwv.com.

Also on July 12th, there will be a car show, “Rev Up For Courtney”. This will take place at the Junior Fire Department from noon until 4:00 p.m. There will be a $10 entry fee per car. Stop and support a friend and enjoy food, prizes, and more.

From July 12th to 15th from 6 to 8:00 p.m., the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Belington invites your child to an Independence Vacation Bible School. Children will enjoy a faith-filled freedom week.

July 13th – 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. the Calvary Southern Baptist Church in Belington will be having Vacation Bible school. Children can explore, discover, and grow in God’s Amazing Creation. For more information call 304-613-0139.

There has been talk of a potential high power line system going through the county. On July 15th at 4:00 p.m. at the former Philippi Middle School, there will be an open house to ask questions and let your concerns be known.

The Philip Barbour High School class of 1964 will be having their reunion on August 1st beginning at noon at Battler’s Knob inPhilippi. Lunch reservations need to be turned in by July 11th, and the cost will be $15 per person. For more information call 304-265-4568.

Also on August 1st, Lurch Fest will take place in Philippi. There will be more information about this to follow.

Looking ahead, the Philippi Baptist Church will be having kids today on August 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. there will be a bicycle course and safety check, including an obstacle course. There will be food and games and also a free helmet giveaway. This will take place on the Barbour County Courthouse lawn.

Mark your calendars! The Barbour County Fair will take place August 29th through September 5th. The theme this year will be, “A Walk to Remember” as we honor our roots. This promises to be a fun time for all.

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

3 cups flour

1 regular size bag of chocolate chips.
