ELKINS – Randolph County Schools Superintendent Derek Lambert announced during his first Randolph County Board of Education meeting that he plans to meet with the principals of the county schools.
Lambert was approved as superintendent by the BOE on May 27. He was officially handed the reins on July 1 after being sworn in by Randolph County Circuit Court Judge Jaymie Godwin Wilfong. Lambert replaced interim Superintendent Terry George, who took over after Dr. Shawn Dilly resigned in March.
“I have set up meetings with all of the school principals over the next two weeks,” Lambert told the Board during the meeting. “I’m going to bring them in and meet with them one-on-one and chat with them and get to know them as we move forward. I’m going to also be meeting with the Central Office staff to do the same thing.”
Lambert then told the BOE that he will be making a trip with several middle school teachers to the state of Georgia at the end of July.
“Huntington Bank has started an initiative where they are sending middle school staff to the Ron Clark Academy in Georgia,” Lambert said. “So some of our Elkins Middle School staff are going and I got accepted through Huntington Bank to go with them when they go toward the end of July. I will be going with them to experience that as well, and hopefully bring back some great things.”
The Ron Clark Academy is a highly-acclaimed, nonprofit middle school located in southeast Atlanta. The school has received worldwide recognition for its success in creating a loving and dynamic learning environment that promotes academic excellence and leadership.
The Ron Clark Academy is for 4th to 8th grade students and has hosted more than 150,000 superintendents, administrators and teachers over the past 16 years.
The next Randolph County Board of Education meeting will be Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
