CRYSTAL SPRINGS – Two people were injured in a single-vehicle accident Saturday near Harrison Avenue, past the J.F. Allen facility, police said.

Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputies L. Elbon and C. Waldron responded to the wreck call, finding a silver Subaru Crosstrek in the opposite lane of traffic, off the roadway teetering on the shoulder, with “a guardrail impaled through the windshield of the vehicle,” according to a release from Sheriff Rob Elbon.

Members of the Elkins Fire Department and the Randolph County Emergency Squad helped the driver out of the vehicle and into the ambulance, the sheriff writes. Both the driver and front-seat passenger were transported to Davis Medical Center for medical evaluation.

The Elkins Fire Department “had to use the Hurst cutting tool to free the car from the guardrail due to the severity of the impact,” Elbon writes.

“I spoke with the driver, a Phillipi resident,” Elbon writes in the release. “She states that she was headed home from Wal-Mart and felt tired before she left. The driver also stated that prior to the crash she did not remember what happened up until the impact at the guardrail.”

The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources also responded to the accident scene.
