ELKINS - Davis & Elkins College welcomed new and returning students to campus Aug. 14-16 with a variety of Welcome Weekend activities centered on the theme "Grow Where You're Planted."
New and first-year students arrived Friday, Aug. 14, followed by returning students Saturday, Aug. 15. Student-athletes, coaches, faculty and staff were stationed at residence halls to assist students and their families with the move-in process.
Friday's events included a parent reception at Graceland Inn and the college's traditional Matriculation Convocation. Before the ceremony, first-year students processed from Booth Library to Harper-McNeeley Auditorium in Myles Center for the Arts, mirroring the walk they will take at commencement in 2030.
During the ceremony, members of the Davis & Elkins College Board of Trustees, senior administrators, faculty and staff formally welcomed first-year students into the D&E community. A dinner in Senate Commons, first-year residence hall meetings and a glow party followed the ceremony.
Saturday's activities included a brunch and College 101 session for first-year students. Students, faculty and staff also attended the Wild and Wonderful Country Fest at the Citizens Bank of West Virginia Amphitheatre. The day included food, music and a women's soccer scrimmage at Nuttall Field.
Welcome Weekend concluded Sunday, Aug. 16, with a worship service at Robbins Memorial Chapel and the college's traditional Summer Celebration Carnival at Myles Plaza. Presented by the Office of Student Life, Student Assembly and Senator Entertainment, the carnival featured a mechanical bull, dunk tank, waterslide, Magic Mirror, games and prizes.
Classes for the fall 2026 semester began Monday. Welcome Week activities will continue through Friday, with a Community Fair, Student Government Association meeting, Welcome Back Bingo, Club and Organization Fair, The Icebreaker and D&E Night on the Town.
