ELKINS – A decades-long tradition will continue Saturday when the Elkins Area Band Auxiliary hosts its annual Corn Roast at Elkins City Park.

This year’s event will run from noon to 2 p.m. and will feature performances from both the Elkins High School Band and Elkins Middle School Band. The EMS Hornets will perform at 1 p.m., followed by the EHS Tigers at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets will be available at the event, or can be purchased in advance at B&J Music, Harris Family Chiropractic, or by contacting EHS Band Director Seth Blake, EMS Band Director Jason Baker, or any band member.

“We are looking forward to this year’s event,” Blake told The Inter-Mountain Tuesday. “The Band Corn Roast has been a long-standing tradition in Elkins for a long time and we appreciate everyone who comes out to support us at the event. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year.”

The main ingredients for this year’s annual event, roasted corn and pork barbecue, will be provided by the Charm Farm. Each meal will also include coleslaw, water and a dessert.

“We will roast the corn in the Park Saturday morning, and Charm Farm is taking care of the pork for us,” Blake said. “We are definitely excited to be able to partner with some local businesses.”

Prior to its performance at Elkins City Park, the Tiger Band will march through downtown Elkins and up Davis Avenue. The EHS Band will perform a handful of songs in addition to the alma-mater and fight songs.

“Our performance at the park will be the premiere of our fall music,” Blake said. “We had our two-week band camp back in July and I was very proud of how hard the kids worked during it to get our show ready.”

Proceeds from the event will go toward helping both the EHS and EMS bands for the upcoming year.

“The money we raise will go for things for the high school and middle school band programs to help them operate throughout the year,” Blake said. “Things like transportation, instrument repairs, and music. Any money that we raise goes directly to helping the kids.”
