The Tree Board meets Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at the Darden House.
Elkins City Council meets Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Phil Gainer Community Center. The meeting will include a public hearing concerning the proposed update to the Elkins Comprehensive Plan, the city's long-range policy document guiding decisions about land use, infrastructure, economic development and other priorities.
Tentative topics for council consideration also include naming and re-addressing properties on the block of Lincoln Avenue north of Harrison Avenue; a proposed lease of office space in City Hall by Mountain Valley Bank; and transferring the City Hall parking lot and Elkins Fire Department property to the Elkins Building Commission as one of the required steps for financing the City Hall repairs and renovation project.
Because council's agenda may be updated through Tuesday, residents should consult the Agenda Center for the final agenda and supporting materials.
The West Virginia Division of Highways plans pavement repairs on 11th Street, Randolph Avenue and Harrison Avenue beginning Monday, Aug. 31. Work may continue through Friday, Sept. 4 and is weather-dependent. These streets are within city limits but are part of the state-maintained road system, so the work is a WVDOH project rather than a City of Elkins paving project.
The city's glass and yard-waste drop-off site at 1 Baxter Street accepts glass and yard waste only. Household trash, boxes, plastic ties, twine and other materials should not be left at the site. These and other prohibited materials can damage equipment at the composting facility that accepts the city's yard waste and could cause that service to be terminated. More information is available at www.cityofelkinswv.gov/community/recycling/.
