BUCKHANNON - A longtime charitable organization based in Upshur County is seeking applications for an annual grant program.
The Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon is accepting grant applications through Sept. 30 for its next Healthy Communities Initiative.
The initiative provides funding to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations for health-focused projects that address needs in Barbour, Lewis, Randolph, Upshur and Webster counties. The initiative also supports projects that improve a nonprofit’s internal capacity to work effectively and develop strong finances, leadership, and infrastructure.
"Every day, organizations in our area are finding creative ways to build stronger, healthier communities," said Laura Boone, Executive Director of the Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon. "The Healthy Communities Initiative gives our team an opportunity to support those efforts and ensure organizations have what they need to continue helping others."
Through Healthy Communities, applicants may receive up to $20,000 in grant funding for continuation or development of programs that address health and wellness, capacity building, food insecurity, substance use disorder, tobacco use prevention and cessation, or spiritual and pastoral care.
In 2025, the Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon awarded 18 nonprofit organizations in five counties, including Barbour, Randolph and Upshur, with grants totaling more than $117,162 through the Healthy Communities Initiative.

The Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon was established in 2015 following the sale of St. Joseph’s Hospital to continue the Pallottine Missionary Sisters’ legacy of caring for the spiritual, emotional, and physical health of the community.
The Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in Barbour, Lewis, Randolph, Upshur, and Webster counties in West Virginia through the funding of projects and initiatives that focus on health and wellness, food insecurity, spiritual and pastoral care, substance use disorder, capacity building, and tobacco prevention and cessation.
