BUCKHANNON -- An Upshur County man is facing a felony charge after allegedly punching a healthcare worker and threatening to kill her.
Leon Devale McDonald Jr., 35, is charged with one count of battery and assault on a healthcare worker, a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $15,000 surety/cash bond.
According to the criminal complaint, filed by Deputy David K. Frazier with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, on July 30, Frazier responded to a 911 call in Buckhannon in reference to threats being made.
Upon arrival, Frazier spoke with the alleged victim, who is a healthcare worker for ResCare Community Living, the complaint states. The alleged victim advised that McDonald had punched her in the face.
Frazier reportedly observed a mark on the alleged victim’s face and documented it. The alleged victim further stated that McDonald allegedly started screaming and said he was “going to kill her,” according to the complaint. She told Frazier that McDonald had allegedly started to get knives and forks, so she went outside and called 911.
Frazier wrote in the complaint that the alleged victim’s injuries were consistent with her timeline of events. He also wrote that, according to the Regional Director of ResCare, McDonald is reportedly “mentally competent.”
