PARSONS -- A Maryland man is facing a felony charge in Tucker County after officers allegedly found more than 100 grams of possible fentanyl with a value of over $14,000 in his vehicle.
Kadeem Roderick Santiful, of Randallstown, Maryland, 33, is charged with one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $75,000 cash-only bond.
According to the criminal complaint, filed by Sgt. S.P. Miller with the West Virginia State Police’s Parsons Detachment, on Aug. 10, Miller was conducting road patrol along U.S. Route 48 near mile marker 48 in Tucker County.
While traveling eastbound towards Parsons, Miller was following a vehicle bearing a Maryland temporary tag, the complaint states. The vehicle was traveling 73 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone. Miller conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Santiful.
Deputy Cale, a Mountain Region Drug Task Force officer, then arrived with his K-9 unit, Eli, the complaint states. Eli conducted an open air sniff around the vehicle, and Cale reportedly advised that Eli had provided a response indicating that controlled substances or narcotics were present in the front bumper area of the vehicle. More officers arrived on the scene and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.
During the search, officers allegedly found 112 grams of a “white powdery substance suspected to be fentanyl” in the engine compartment, the complaint states. The amount of substances have an estimated street value of approximately $14,560. Officers also allegedly found approximately $4,910 in cash in Santiful’s “groin area.” Miller reportedly found a set of digital scales covered in a “white residue,” a box of sandwich baggies and a vacuum sealer. Miller writes in the complaint that all the items reportedly found are consistent with drug sales and distribution.
According to Magistrate Court Records, a preliminary hearing for Santiful has been scheduled for Aug. 18 in Tucker County Magistrate Court.
