PICKENS - A Barbour County woman is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly shooting another woman in the face during an altercation at Turkey Bone Road in Randolph County over the weekend.
Regina Lea Collette, 45, of Philippi, has been charged with attempted murder, a felony. She is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Tracy M. Harper.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Trooper H.J. Bonetti, West Virginia State Police troopers, Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies and Elkins Police Department officers were dispatched to investigate a "shots fired" call on Turkey Bone Road in Pickens at about 6:45 p.m. Friday.
Bonetti writes that when he arrived on the scene, he witnessed Collette "to be coming in and out of consciousness," the complaint states. Bonetti and Trooper T.J. Sclimenti transported Collette "to intercept with emergency medical technicians."
The alleged victim, Amanda Jo Simmons, "was transported via personal vehicle to emergency medical technicians" at the Homestead Community Center in Valley Bend, according to the complaint.
Witnesses told police that Simmons and Collette’s brother-in-law were camping at the Turkey Bone Road area Friday, and that Collette and her husband "approached them and began yelling," the complaint states.
One witness said Collette and Simmons got into a "physical altercation," and then Collette "walked to the back passenger door of the truck, grabbed a gun and pointed it right at Amanda Simmons’ facial area," according to the complaint.
The witness told police Simmons asked, "What are you going to do, shoot me?" and then Collette "shot her in the facial area," the complaint states.
Collette told police that she and Simmons were in a physical altercation, and that Simmons was "on top of her and punching her," and allegedly told Collette "I’m going to kill you," according to the complaint. Collette said she then shot Simmons.
Another witness told police that he witnessed Collette "shoot Amanda Simmons from a standing position after retrieving the firearm from her vehicle," the complaint states.
