ELKINS – A longtime Mountain State Forest Festival tradition will this year feature a West Virginia tribute to the America 250 event.
The annual Mountain State Forest Festival Quilt Show, hosted by the Log Cabin Quilters Guild, will offer items handmade by members of the organization and other quilters from throughout the state.
The Quilt Show will take place in the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA Gymnasium and admission is free. This year’s main exhibit will be a West Virginia Salute to America 250 Quilt. The quilt is from the West Virginia Culture Center and will be on display throughout the event.
Visitors attending the show can either browse or purchase items at the three-day event, which will be the 11th annual for the Log Cabin Quitters Guild. The show will run Oct. 1 through Oct. 3. The first two days (Thursday and Friday) the show will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Day 3 (Saturday) the show will be open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Log Cabin Quilters Guild is celebrating its 40th Anniversary (1986 to 2026) this year. Quilts will be on display from some of the guild’s founding members, as well as historical information and photos about the organization.
The featured member exhibitors will be Jean Kelley and Carol Pizzino, while Randall Hill, from Charleston, will be the featured guest exhibitor. There will also be 14 quits on display that were made by area youth at quilt camps this summer at the Elkins Sewing Center.
A Quilt Market will be featured during the event that will feature an array of hand-crafted items. Proceeds from the Quilt Market fund making quilts for local patients on dialysis. A Quilt of Valor will also be on display for female veterans of Randolph County.
The Log Cabin Quilters Guild Quilt Show typically sees more than 3,000 visitors during the three-day event. More than 100 vendors are expected to take part in the show.
The first-ever Log Cabin Quilter’s Guild meeting took place at the Randolph County Senior Center on Sept. 4, 1986, with 21 people in attendance. The organization currently has close to 70 members.
