Judy hired as new Randolph County Dog Warden

ELKINS – The Randolph County Commission approved the hiring of Zach Judy as the county’s new dog warden during a recent meeting held at the Commission Annex.
Judy is replacing Ron Gooden, who resigned from the dog warden position back in June of this year. Gooden was originally hired for the job in February 2023.
“As most everybody knows, we lost our dog warden within the last couple of months,” Randolph County Commissioner Cris Siler said during the meeting. “Ron (Gooden) did a great job and we hated to lose him, but we did.
“We took in applications, did interviews, and spoke with several different people trying to come up with the right match. Zach (Judy) showed a lot of interest in wanting the job and I think he is going to be a good fit.”
Siler and fellow Commissioners David Kesling and Kenna Barger unanimously approved the hiring of Judy at the meeting.
Judy was already an employee with the county at the time of his hiring, working as a court security officer for the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. Judy’s first official day on the job was on Aug. 31.
“Me and Kenna (Barger) did some interviews for this position and Zach (Judy) was one of them,” Kesling said. “He is a current employee with the county and I’ve got to know him through his position as a court security officer and I think he’s a fine young man and a good county employee. I think he will take this position to the next level.”
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office handled the dog warden calls for the past two months while the County Commission conducted interviews and searched for a new hire for the position.
“We were handling several dog warden calls per day,” RCSO Captain B.A. Talkington told the Commissioners. “It was really consuming a lot of our time.”
The Randolph County Commission will gather for its next meeting on Oct. 1 at 1:30 p.m.
