ELKINS - Many local residents this week are remembering a 60-year preacher, long-time business owner and former radio announcer who passed away Monday.
Kent Price, 80, had just celebrated, on Sept. 6, his 60th year in ministry.
He began preaching in Cincinnati in 1966, then later served as a preacher in Kentucky, before ministering at the Valley Bend Church of Christ.
Price had been the preacher at the First Christian Church in Elkins since his Ordination Service there on Nov. 12, 1972.
He was proud of his 43-year association with Howell's Mills Christian Assembly in Ona, a non-profit, year-round Christian camp and retreat center.
Born in Paden City, Price was a graduate of Elkins High School and Kentucky Christian College. He was well-known for his work with Printcrafters, the Elkins print shop where he worked with his father, Samuel Joseph Price.
He had served as chaplain at Davis Medical Center, and with the Randolph County Coalition of Christian Churches.
Price had been a member of the Elkins Jaycees, serving as president in 1979. He was a 50-year member of the Elkins Lodge No. 108, A.F. & A.M., the Elkins Chapter No. 35, Royal Arch Masons, where he had served as District Deputy High Priest, and the Pilgrim Commandery No. 21.
He and his wife Cindy were married for 59 years, and had three children, five grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Both of his sons are elders in their church in Cincinnati.
