ELKINS - Elkins and much of the surrounding areas are currently under a flood watch, which is in effect through Wednesday morning.
The flood watch affects portions of Randolph, Barbour, Upshur and Pocahontas counties.
According to the National Weather Service, flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible in the watch area.
"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations," the flood watch states.
"Slow moving heavy showers and thunderstorms will periodically move through the area through Wednesday morning. Areas which have previously received heavy rain will be most vulnerable to additional flooding."
The flood watch area includes the cities of Elkins, Harman, Philippi, Belington, Buckhannon, Marlinton and Snowshoe.
