Officers with the Elkins City Police, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia State Police responded to reports of a male individual with a handgun outside of a daycare center on Kennedy Street in Elkins about 12:45 p.m. Thursday. At least 10 law enforcement vehicles converged on the area near the Division of Highways District 8 Equipment Shop. According to police scanner traffic, the subject was reportedly found and detained, but police continued to scan the area searching for the reported firearm. Further details were unavailable at press time.
