PSC recognizes truck drivers

CHARLESTON -The Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC) participated in National Truck Driver Appreciation Week by recognizing and thanking commercial truck drivers for their contributions to West Virginia and the nation.
PSC staff, transportation officers, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) staff greeted drivers at the I-64 Eastbound weigh station. The group distributed informational packets while personally thanking drivers for their dedication to keeping the nation's economy moving.
The packets included resources for the commercial motor vehicle community, information about the FMCSA's Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, and tips for managing fatigue and staying alert behind the wheel, among other items.
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, observed Sept. 13-19 this year, is an annual event organized by the FMCSA that recognizes the hard work and dedication of truck drivers and highlights the importance of safety on the roadways.
"Truck drivers make an important contribution to our communities and our economy," PSC Chairman Charlotte R. Lane said. "We appreciate the long hours, dedication, and commitment they bring to their work, and we are proud to join our transportation partners in recognizing them and supporting their efforts to stay safe on the road."
There are roughly 3.6 million professional truck drivers nationwide, delivering the essential goods our families rely on - from food to fuel to medicine to clothing. The hard-working men and women behind the wheel safely transport more than 11 billion tons of goods and products every year, which account for more than 70% of America's total annual freight. Statistics show that 80% of U.S. communities depend solely on trucking to deliver goods.
