ELKINS – The Augusta Heritage Center has announced that Executive Director Seth Young is leaving the organization after seven years of service.
Young is stepping down to pursue a new professional opportunity, an Augusta Heritage Center press release states. Since taking over in 2019, Young has been the face and the voice of the organization.
After guiding Augusta through the COVID-19 pandemic, Young helped the organization purchase the historic Wilt Building in downtown Elkins in late 2023. Before the purchase and the move to downtown, which took place in early 2024, the Augusta Heritage Center had called Davis & Elkins College home since 1981.
“Seth has given many years of dedicated service to Augusta, and we are deeply grateful for his leadership and commitment to the organization,” said Jack Tribble, Chair of the Augusta Heritage Center Board of Directors. “His work helped Augusta navigate a remarkable period of change while positioning the organization for its next chapter. We wish him every success in what comes next.”
For the first time this past summer, Young moved Augusta’s annual workshops and concerts to the downtown Elkins area, a move that he said was going to “integrate Augusta with the community and open doors for opportunities on both sides.”
Augusta's programs and operations will continue under the experienced leadership team of Emily Miller, who serves as the Augusta Heritage Center’s Chief Creative Officer, and Eric Armstrong, the organization’s Chief Operations Officer.
“The Board has full confidence in Augusta's current leadership and in the direction of the organization,” Tribble said. “There is a strong foundation in place, and we look forward to continuing the work already underway.”
Both Miller and Armstrong have played a central role in the organization's recent transition, the growth of its downtown presence, and the continued delivery of its year-round workshops, retreats, concerts, dances, educational programs, and cultural initiatives, the release states.
Augusta Heritage Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating traditional arts, music, dance, craft, and folklife through immersive educational experiences, public programming, and cultural documentation.
