BELINGTON - Officials and volunteers are busy preparing for the 15th annual Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run, set for Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Belington Wellness Center.
This year’s event, presented by the Barbour Community Health Association, will support hunger relief efforts across Barbour County. All proceeds will be divided between the Heart and Hand House and the Belington Presbyterian Church.
Heart and Hand's food pantry provides meals for around 275 people per month, and the Presbyterian Church will provide approximately 400 Thanksgiving meals to residents in November.
"Every year the Turkey Trot brings neighbors together in a way that reflects the best of our community," said Kim Bolton, director of the Belington Wellness Center. "It is a chance to focus on wellness while directly supporting families who rely on these vital programs. And it has become a great tradition for families looking to get out and move together for a cause."
The Turkey Trot event traditionally invites families, seasoned runners and first-time participants to come together for "a morning of movement, gratitude and local impact," a press release stated.
The event will begin and end at the Belington Wellness Center, located at 70 Sturmer Street. Race day registration will begin at 7:45 a.m., with the Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run set to begin at 9 a.m. There is an entry fee to take part in the event.
Participants can register online at runsignup.com/Race/WV/Belington/BCHATurkeyTrot or sign up on race day beginning at 7:45 a.m.
"Giving back to our community is at the heart of everything we do," said Eric Ruf, Chief Executive Officer of Barbour Community Health Association. "This event is a reminder that when we come together, we can make a real difference for families facing food insecurity."
