BUCKHANNON – Buckhannon-Upshur High School was placed on a “precautionary hold” Tuesday morning due to a custody dispute incident.
The precautionary hold period began at about 11:45 a.m., and students were back in class by 1 p.m., officials said.
The following message was issued by Upshur County Schools regarding the incident on Tuesday:
"Today, school administration and law enforcement responded to a custodial issue at BUHS. Out of an abundance of caution, local law enforcement assisted school personnel in addressing the matter and ensuring the safety of students and staff.
“We want to reassure families that students and staff remained safe throughout the incident. Based on the information available, the situation was isolated and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to our school community.
“We recognize that situations such as this can cause concern and may lead to rumors or misinformation.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We appreciate the professionalism of our school staff and the support of our law enforcement partners in responding quickly and appropriately.”
