Green Eggs Foundation donates piano to Tucker school

HAMBLETON – A local non-profit organization recently raised funds to purchase a new piano for students at Tucker County Elementary Middle School.
The Green Eggs Foundation, an organization that was created to inspire and ignite a lifelong love for the arts in school-age children, learned of the dilemma at the school and quickly sprung into action.
“Tucker County Middle School music teacher Heather Lantz spoke with us before school started and expressed how the piano she had no longer worked, and there wasn't money in the budget to get one,” Green Eggs Foundation Executive Director Lisa Parrish told The Inter-Mountain. “So we set out to find what was practical for her classroom and raised funds to supply it.
“It’s our mission to inspire and create spaces where kids are free to explore and find their passions in the arts. And it always starts in schools with amazing teachers like Mrs. Lantz.”
Parrish said the Green Eggs Foundation has been speaking with public school teachers in Randolph and Tucker counties to get an idea of how their classrooms work, what their funding looks like yearly, and what help they need.
“We've spoken with a couple teachers in Randolph County and have been working to get supplies for their classrooms and storage solutions for their instruments,” Parrish said. “We have even been working with national school curriculum to help provide materials for children to be able to explore playing keyboard, guitars, etc. The community response has been nothing short of amazing.”
Parrish said storage closets are being constructed to protect instruments at Midland Elementary School. She said the lumber was donated by Elkins resident Leskie Tompkins, who is a member of the local band Wish Awake.
The organization is also getting ready to launch an initiative called the “The Green Eggs Closet” where community members can drop off various classroom supplies.
“Supplies from the Green Eggs Closet will be available for any music or art teacher in Randolph County,” Parrish said. “We're currently setting up donation locations at Hair Graphics, Amp's Auto, and Byrd's House of Donuts. The types of donations we are accepting are printer paper, notebooks, pencils, any art supplies. You can simply take your donation to any of these locations and we'll collect them for the teachers.”
The Green Eggs Foundation aims to nurture imagination, self-expression and confidence, while empowering the next generation of artists, thinkers and dreamers.
