PHILIPPI - Veterans and their families, along with the general public, are invited to a free military music concert by the West Virginia Army National Guard's 249th Army Band.
The free community performance, “A Tribute to Veterans,” designed to honor military service members, will take place Saturday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Battlers Knob Chapel in Philippi.
The concert will be open to the general public.
"Veterans, active-duty service members, military families, and community members throughout Barbour County and North Central West Virginia are cordially invited to attend an evening of patriotic tribute and musical excellence," according to a West Virginia National Guard press statement released Monday.
“This performance is our way of giving back to those who have worn the uniform and sacrificed on behalf of our country,” said a spokesperson for the 249th Army Band. “We are honored to bring this musical salute to Philippi and share an uplifting, memorable evening with the local community.”
The program will feature "a stirring selection of traditional American marches, patriotic anthems, and an armed forces medley paying tribute to each branch of the United States Armed Forces," the release states.
The ensemble brings together talented citizen-soldier musicians representing communities across the Mountain State.
The 249th Army Band performed a well-received concert in Elkins in the summer of 2025.
The 249th Army Band is a unit of the West Virginia National Guard, and the only military band to serve West Virginia.
