ELKINS – Mountain State Forest Festival officials announced Thursday night that the annual outdoor Maid Silvia coronation ceremony will be moved up 90 minutes due to rain being in the weather forecast.
“After much discussion and careful consideration, the MSFF has made the decision to move Friday's Coronation Ceremony to 12:30 p.m.,” an official MSFF email stated at 10:02 p.m. Thursday night. “This is 90 minutes earlier than the originally scheduled time of 2 p.m.
“We are doing everything we feel is possible to give Coronation the best opportunity to remain outdoors and avoid moving this treasured ceremony indoors due to rain,” the email continues.
“Pre-Coronation music will begin at 11:30 a.m. Practice remains at 8 a.m.
“We greatly appreciate everyone's flexibility, patience, and cooperation as we work together to make the best decisions possible for tomorrow's events,” the email reads.
The National Weather Service forecast for the Elkins area Friday calls for an 80% chance of rain, “mainly after 2 p.m.”
