ELKINS – The Randolph County Commission approved the hiring of a new executive director for 4-H Camp Pioneer during its most recent meeting.

Commissioners David Kesling and Kenna Barger were present at the meeting and voted unanimously to fill the vacant position with Cassie Hedrick, who is set to start the job on Oct. 12.

Hedrick will be a probationary hire for the first 90 days. She will then be evaluated, and if retained, will earn complete Randolph County benefits.

“The hours per week for this position will be 37.5, and 75 hours per pay period,” Kesling said. “The schedule is flexible based on any events they are having at 4-H Camp Pioneer.”

Hedrick replaces Sarah Cunningham in the position, and will be the third executive director in the past five years at 4-H Camp Pioneer, which is governed by the Randolph County Park and Recreation Board. That Board includes one incumbent of the Randolph County Board of Education, one incumbent of the Randolph County Commission, three taxpayer representatives of Randolph County, two Randolph County 4-H Club leaders, one member of the Randolph County 4-H Foundation, and one member of the Randolph County Farm Bureau. A Randolph County Extension Agent serves as an advisory member.

Camp Pioneer is a 95-acre recreational facility located in Beverly on the Kings Run Road. It hosts multiple events throughout the year, including 4-H Camp, where students participate in overnight camping and a host of outdoor activities.

Other major events held annually at 4-H Camp Pioneer include the West Virginia Wild and Wonderful Celtic Festival and Highland Games, Randolph County Fair, and the fundraising Ox Roast.
