MOATSVILLE - An elderly woman died as the result of an early Monday morning fire at a residence in Barbour County, officials said.
First responders were called to a structure fire on the Jack Reed Road, and upon their arrival an elderly woman was found trapped upstairs in the home, according to published reports.
Firefighters were able to remove the woman from the house, and she was sent for medical treatment for smoke inhalation. However, she passed away while being transported to a medical helicopter, according to information provided by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office.
